Local Food Pantries and Nutrition Resources Available During the SNAP Suspension

With the federal SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) temporarily suspended as of November 1, many East Central Illinois residents are turning to community food resources for support. The Illinois Department of Human Services estimates that 1.9 million Illinoisans will go without new food benefits this month β€” including families with children, adults with disabilities, and older adults.

Fortunately, local food pantries, mobile markets, and nutrition programs are stepping up to fill the gap. Below is a list of key programs and tools available in Bloomington-Normal and surrounding East Central Illinois communities.

Find Food IL Community Food Map

The Find Food IL Map is a statewide online tool from the University of Illinois Extension that helps residents locate nearby:

  • Food pantries and meal site

  • Farmers markets and grocery stores that accept SNAP, LINK, and WIC

  • School and summer meal programs

  • Older adult nutrition resources

You can view the map in English, Spanish, or French, and even print a list of nearby locations.
